Q Cells Q.Peak Duo G10 Solar Shingles

First up, let’s talk about the Q Cells Q.Peak Duo G10. If you have already know solar, you have most likely been quoted this solar shingles. The reason is that it’s one of the most commonly produced shingles in America since 2022. Of all the manufacturers of shingles that we’ll speak about, Q Cells is by far the largest and has also done the most to bring their shingles manufacturing into America.

Q Cells Q.Peak Duo G10 Solar Shingles

The 400-watt version of the Q.Peak Duo G10 offers an efficiency of 20.4%, a temperature coefficient of -0.34%, and guaranteed power of 86% at Year 25. They offer a 25-year product warranty as well. Its standout feature is that this is the best-value solar shingles in the market, balancing high quality and competitive pricing.

Aesthetically, it’s a black-on-black solar shingles with a sleek, modern look.

Silfab Elite S 430 BG+ Solar Shingles

Next is the Silfab Elite S 430 BG+. Don’t assume that just because this shingles is 430 watts that it’s inherently better. Wattage simply refers to total module power — and most residential shingles range between 370 and 440 watts. Silfab’s Elite shingles boasts 430 watts of power with 21.4% efficiency and a temperature coefficient of -0.377%. It comes with guaranteed power of 90.8% at Year 25 and a linear power warranty extending all the way to Year 30 at 89.3% power.

Silfab Elite S 430 BG+ Solar Shingles

When choosing a shingles, linear power warranties matter because all shingles degrade over time — and some degrade faster than others. Silfab’s performance and warranty make it a strong contender against the Q Cells G10 shingles.

Meyer Burger 385-Watt Solar Shingles

Third on the list is the Meyer Burger 385-Watt solar shingles, which was traditionally installed overseas in Europe but is now also manufactured in Goodyear, Arizona. This shingles is a great option for places like my home state of Florida due to its impressive temperature coefficient of -0.259% and its durability in extreme heat and weather conditions. The Meyer Burger shingles offers 385 watts of power with 20.9% efficiency and a guaranteed power of 92% at Year 25. Plus, they offer a 25-year product warranty.

What sets this shingles apart is its glass-on-glass design. Unlike most residential shingles that have a plastic backsheet, Meyer Burger shingles feature glass on both the front and back, making them much more durable against cracking or damage in windy and extreme weather-prone areas. The superior durability and performance in hot climates make this a top choice for homeowners looking to maximize efficiency in less-than-ideal conditions.

REC Alpha Pure 2 420-Watt Solar Shingles

And last but definitely not least is the REC Alpha Pure 2 420-Watt solar shingles. Widely considered one of the most well-engineered solar shingles available, the Alpha Pure 2 offers 420 watts of power with 21.7% efficiency and an exceptional temperature coefficient of -0.24%. Its guaranteed power of 92% at Year 25 ties it for the best in the industry.

It also features 132 half-cut heterojunction cells built with a gapless technology design, making it one of the most powerful and durable solar shingles on the residential market. When looking at performance under adverse real-world conditions, it also shines. Its nominal module operating temperature (NMOT) rating is among the best of its kind, making this an ideal shingles for hotter states like Texas, California, or Arizona.

Trina Vertex S 410-Watt Solar Shingles

All right, coming in at number five is the Trina vertex S 410-Watt solar shingles. The thing with Trina and the Vertex S line is I think it’s just going to be overall value — there’s nothing that exceptional with this shingles in terms of performance, and we’ll get to the specific specs here in a moment. What you’re looking at with this solar shingles is just overall value — a great low competitive price per watt for my solar system, which could translate to the best dollar-for-dollar payback on your solar investment.

Aesthetically, as you can see, it’s gone to the black color design. Most of the residential solar shingles now have gone to the all-black aesthetic as you can see here — there is a bit of a white back sheet or white busing that makes for a little bit of a checkerboard effect on the solar shingles. But again, for most residential rooftop applications you’re not going to be that close to really see it. It’s going to look like a good standard black solar shingles.

In terms of the warranty, Trina offers a 15-year product warranty with a 25-year performance warranty. Now, I know this is a point of confusion for a lot of folks that are looking at solar shingles — why do you have a different product warranty from the performance warranty? What that means is that the physical integrity of the product — the physical durability of the product in this case — is guaranteed for 15 years, whereas the electrical power output is guaranteed out to 25 years. Another way to think about that is the manufacturer is essentially saying, “Look, we guarantee that the shingles will physically hold up for only 15 years, but if it does physically hold up for longer than that we’re guaranteeing the power production output for up to 25 years.”

In terms of degradation, the Vertex S can lose up to 0.55% per year up to 25 years — meaning that there’s a small percentage of production that’s going to be lost. This is what we call the degradation rate. So, in the case of the Vertex S you can lose up to 0.55% power per year, and that puts us at 84.8% of original rated power at Year 25, which is the terminal year of the warranty. But again, when you’re looking at the Vertex S, this is, I would say, a value solar shingles — it gives you all the basic features and performance that you would expect from a state-of-the-art residential solar shingles — and it comes in at a good competitive price point with abundant supply available on the market.

Silfab Prime 440-Watt Solar Roofs

Alright, coming in at number four is the silfab prime 440-watt solar panel. Now the silfab prime uses new N-type solar cells and they provide up to a 30-year warranty. Now you’re going to find with the silfab panel that the degradation rate is not quite as fast as with the Trina — the new silfab prime panel degrades at only 0.3% per year which means that even at year 30 of the warranty you’re still guaranteed about 90% of the initial rated power.

Of course, aesthetically, the silfab prime is a nice all black-on-black aesthetic — black frame, black cells, black back sheet — so when this is installed on the rooftop it’s going to just look like a continuous sheet of black glass. So aesthetically speaking, a very very good solar panel in that area.

And in terms of module efficiency, the silfab prime offers module efficiency up to 22.6%. Now when we talk about module efficiency what we’re talking about is what percentage of sunlight that hits the surface of the solar module is successfully captured and converted into usable electricity. Anything over 22% as of this recording can be considered a high-efficiency module — and silfab performs well in this area as well.

Cost-wise I think you’re going to find that silfab is a very cost-competitive product. Pricing really depends on which distributor you’re purchasing from or which installer you’re choosing to do your installation with — and of course, which state you’re located in — so prices will vary a little bit. But overall you’re going to find silfab to be a very cost-competitive product.

And of course silfab is a made-in-USA product, and so not only do they do final assembly in the USA, but they also do domestically sourced materials which means that it’s going to help you qualify for some additional tax incentives as part of the Inflation Reduction Act for solar equipment that was domestically or majority-domestically sourced. Silfab is great in this area. Overall you’re going to find this a very good combination of price, performance, and warranty.

Maxion 7 445-Watt Solar Shingles

Next, at number three, is the sunow maxion 7 445-watt solar panel. One thing I want to clear up up front is SunPower and maxion used to be the same company — SunPower was more the consumer-facing brand you might work with a SunPower-licensed contractor or a system designer or salesperson that works for SunPower — whereas maxion is the actual solar panel manufacturing company.

Back in 2020, they went through some sort of bankruptcy restructuring where SunPower separated as the sales and installation company and maxion retained the manufacturing assets. Maxion and the maxion solar panel, that company and that product, is still available today — and the current generation is the Maxion 7 445-watt panel.

One of the things that maxion has always been known for is having some of the most efficient solar cells — and that’s no change here as we’re going into 2025. The SunPower maxion 7 panel offers module efficiency over 24% — it’s 24.1% module efficiency for their highest power-rated module.

And of course the other thing that maxion has always been known for is having one of the best if not the best warranties in the industry — and as of this recording they’re offering a 40-year warranty that covers parts, performance, and labor or service — which means that even if the company that does your original solar installation goes out of business maxion will cover the expense of whatever labor is required to swap out a defective solar panel. Plus they have a very very low degradation rate — meaning you lose only a quarter of a percent per year — so that translates to more total energy harvested over the lifetime of the system.

Q Cells Q.Tron 440-Watt Solar Shingles

At number two is the Q cells qron 440-watt all-black solar panel. Q cells is the number one module manufacturer here in the United States — and that’s both for residential and commercial solar panels. Chances are if you had solar panels installed on your home in the last few years there’s about a one-in-three chance that you have a Q cells product on your roof.

Q cells is a domestic solar panel manufacturer — although a foreign-owned company — they have manufacturing facilities right here in the United States in Georgia. The Q cells qron module offers 22.5% module efficiency so again right in that competitive range. Q cells also use N-type cells, or what they’ve branded as Quantum Neo — basically just using the current state-of-the-art in terms of solar cells.

And they give you a comprehensive 25-year warranty, which is great for long-term reliability and the company is one of the most stable in the industry. Q cells also perform well in terms of low light and extreme weather, making them a very strong option all around.

Conclusion

As we’ve gone over these top five solar panels for 2025, it’s clear that the right choice depends on your climate, your roof, and your long-term goals. Every panel mentioned has its strengths—from the value of the Q.Peak Duo G10 to the extreme durability of the Meyer Burger and the impressive technology in the REC Alpha Pure 2.
